Applications
This group includes bitumen-rubber coatings, bitumen-polyurethane products, roll membranes and suitable polyurethane waterproofing systems. Their uses differ: a material intended for a protected foundation wall is not automatically suitable for an exposed roof or a tiled terrace. The design must account for corners, connections, drainage and movement joints. Below-ground applications also require consideration of the protection placed over the waterproofing and the surrounding construction. The product documentation defines which substrates and application methods are appropriate.
What we assess
Identify the construction type, existing waterproofing, exposure to sunlight and water, and any insulation or finishing layers that will contact the membrane. Compare compatible complete systems rather than assuming that bituminous and polyurethane materials can always be combined. Verify preparation, primer, application and protection requirements in the current technical documentation. On renovation projects, establish what the old membrane contains and whether it can remain. The proposed sequence should also allow inspection of joints and details before they are covered.
