Applications
Liquid membranes are considered for roofs, terraces, balconies, foundations and wet areas when the chosen product is intended for that application. They follow the geometry of prepared surfaces and are used with specified details around drains, penetrations and wall connections. The whole construction matters: drainage, movement joints and the condition of the base influence the design. A membrane beneath tiles, an exposed roof membrane and a protected below-ground layer can require different systems and finishing arrangements.
What we assess
Start with the substrate, the source and direction of water exposure, and whether the membrane will remain exposed or receive another layer. Check the product documentation for compatible primers, reinforcement details, protective coats and the intended covering. Application conditions and drying requirements must suit the site programme. Explain whether the area is walked on or used by vehicles. Photographs of drains, joints and penetrations are as useful as the overall surface area when reviewing a proposal.
